The Industrial Revolution has resulted in massive amounts of carbon being released into the air
The Graph below shows Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Levels compared with Global Emissions of Carbon
The combustion of fossil fuels over the last 150 years has increased from the preindustrial levels of 278 parts per million of atmospheric CO2 to more than 420 parts per million today.
This is an uncontrolled atmospheric experiment with potential long-term global risks.
Many will say that is an understatement.
